Priyanka Persaud is a fourth year student of the Life Sciences specialization of UOIT’s Honours Biological Sciences program. From early childhood, Priyanka was intrigued by the human body and science, fostering her interest in the life sciences and health care delivery throughout high school and undergraduate years. Priyanka’s aptitude for trying new things and broadening her skill set has had a strong influence on her undergraduate career. This is seen through her participation in a variety of extracurricular activities and endeavors ranging from positions on executive teams, to peer mentoring, to completing an Undergraduate Thesis in Chemical synthesis. Priyanka took on the role of President of CARRM @ UOIT with the hopes of increasing the university community’s awareness about CARRM, the far reaching impacts of regenerative medicine and students’ involvement with the Chapter.

<strong>Skylor McQueen</strong>

Skylor McQueen is a third-year student at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. She is currenting majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Psychology, and is currently the Vice President of CARRM at this location. She is currently an Occupational and Physiotherapist assistant with a major in pediatric neurorehabilitation and is passionate about working in this field. She plans to graduate in 2020 and begin a postgraduate degree in prosthetics and orthotics. It is her passion for pediatrics, prosthetics and neurorehabilitation that brought her to CARRM. Over the past 20 years the development in the use of stem cells to rebuild and repair the human body is astounding. Skylor explains that the possibilities of advancement in the next 20 years inspire her to continue her education and to one day possibility be part of the research herself.

<strong>Mehroz Ali</strong>

Mehroz is a friendly, 3rd year kinesiology student specializing in exercise science. He has a passion for health and wellness industry. His curiosity for medicine started started at an early age as he was inspired by his relatives working in the medical field. Seeking to follow their footsteps, his genuine curiosity and yearning of entrepreneurship, Mehroz spends much of his time learning about innovation and new ideas in the medical field. Having been raised in a country with poor living standard before immigrating to Canada at the tender age of 9 years old, he recognizes the importance of medicine in society. Being the event coordinator at CARRM at UOIT, he hopes to get the word of regenerative medicine for further research and funding. Mehroz hopes to pursue further education in the medical field with hopes of becoming a physician and owning a business. Outside of school, Mehroz can be found reading about self-improvement and emotional intelligence or having a laugh with friends and more often than not, being exuberant watching or playing soccer. Mehroz also loves connecting with people and having a good time.

David Abdel - Malek

David Abdel-Malek is currently in his third year of the Kinesiology Program at UOIT, pursuing a Bachelors of Health Science Honours degree. He has always had a keen interest in the field of medicine, and is hoping to pursue a career in the healthcare field as a physician. He finds the nervous system to be particularly astounding, and believes that an organization such as CARRM can aid in the treatment of a number of neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s. CARRM truly has unlimited potential, and the stem cell research that they partake in can be extremely beneficial for thousands of patients around the disease-ridden world that we live in today.

Ariana Florescu is currently in her fourth year at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science. From a young age, Ariana has always been fascinated with the world of medicine and so she hopes to continue her academic learning by pursuing a master’s degree in public health. Her primary goal is to be involved in the field of disease prevention thus, ensuring the health and safety of the population. Ariana believes stem cell research is an integrative part of the future as it may be the key to curing numerous diseases and hopefully become a vital component in treatment plans. Her role as the secretory for CARRM allows her to raise awareness and bring attention to this innovating new discovery in healthcare.
