Faisal Abdul Razzaq

President

This will be my 3rd year with CARRM. I joined in 2018 as an Event Director and am the current President of the U of T chapter of CARRM. My duties involve delegating responsibilities to the executive team as well as overseeing all activities of the chapter by the executive, general member and volunteer teams. I joined CARRM because of my deep interest in regenerative medicine and stem cell research. As I learned about the molecular mechanisms of disease in class, it became clear to me that research in regenerative medicine was the way forward to cures for a lot of medical conditions. A future free from cancer, amputations, autoimmune diseases etc. requires us to understand more about the way our cells and tissues develop. Through ground-breaking novel discoveries to bioengineering cures, every effort in regenerative medicine is a step towards a brighter and healthier future. My work at CARRM helps me advocate for this dream and has been one of my most rewarding experiences to date. I look forward to contributing all I can to the field of regenerative medicine through research, education and advocacy.

Treasurer & Sponsorship Director

I joined CARRM as regenerative medicine has always been a very fascinating area of study to me. I wanted to learn more about emerging topics in the field, while sharing this knowledge with others and helping the club realize its goals. In my role, I am responsible for preparing an annual budget, managing club assets, overseeing donation processing, and seeking opportunities for club funding from the University of Toronto and external sources. I also work collaboratively with the rest of the executive team to plan and host club events which raise awareness and fundraise for research in regenerative medicine.

Media Director

I have always been interested in research in healthcare and was looking for ways to get involved in learning more. In my first year, I joined CARRM as a general member and realized the potential of regenerative medicine. I decided to join the Executive team as the Media Director so I can utilize my skills in designing and creating media to help with advocating for CARRM’s causes. As Media Director, I am responsible for creating and managing media content for our social media platforms as well as recruiting general members for assisting in creative tasks.

CARRM has a group of motivated and hardworking students who are interested in cutting edge research in regenerative medicine. Innovation and discovery is the foundation of science and CARRM’s only mission is to motivate the next generation of scientists to focus on new and developing fields such as regenerative medicine. Since joining CARRM I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge about stem cells and their potential therapeutic applications. As a neuroscience student, I now understand the importance of stem cell therapeutics with regards to the nervous system. Overall, my experience in CARRM has been full of fulfilling experiences which are hard to come by in a large university like UofT.

Events Director

I’ve been passionate about being a doctor ever since I was a kid and stem cell research is one of my favourite areas in research due to the vast possibilities this field brings regarding studying disease development and tissue repair in the body. CARRM’s mission is to spread awareness about regenerative medicine so that young minds could be inspired to take on the challenge to further develop and discover more about stem cells and as the Events Director, I not only get to develop my leadership and organization skills but also interact with like-minded people.

Vice president of events

Stem cell research has been my favourite area of research in my undergraduate studies. While joining CARRM in 2019, I have gained a lot of leadership experiences, made new friends and were able to engage with the UofT community, researchers and professors. The main goal of our association is to raise more awareness into regenerative medicine with the public and also gain funding in order to promote further research in stem cell and regenerative medicine. Thus, as the Vice President, I collaboratively work with the event’s directors to organize and hold charity based events. I sincerely believe that our efforts in CARRM UofT will inform the public more about regenerative medicine and promote further discoveries in this discipline.

Communications Director

As communications director, my role is to record official minutes during executive meetings, organize external meetings for the team, and to be in charge of email correspondence. I joined CARRM because as a cell and molecular biology student, the area of stem cell research is a huge part of what I study every single day, and is naturally an area of interest for me. Being a part of this club exposes me to new advancements in regenerative medicine. Whether it be our stem cell Tuesday fun facts, or organizing events with renowned researchers in the field, this club never fails to keep me in the loop on what’s new and exciting in one of the most promising fields of medicine today!
